Eric Berkman and Steven Gichner, two of the greater Washington, D.C., area's most experienced and successful commercial property sales professionals, have joined Cushman & Wakefield as Executive Vice Presidents. As a team at Grubb & Ellis, Messrs. Berkman and Gichner ranked as the top investment sales professionals in the U.S. in 2010 and have been top brokerage professionals in the firm since the late 1990's. They will be based in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Berkman brings more than 23 years of experience to his position having worked as an Executive Vice President of the Washington, D.C., Institutional Capital Markets group at G&E. He has consistently been among the top 20 producers and top investment sales professionals in the country. In 2007, Mr. Berkman was the highest producing Institutional Investment Group professional and ranked third in G&E overall.
Mr. Gichner has more than 21 years of experience in the sale of institutional-quality office and industrial assets in the Mid-Atlantic and secondary markets. In his previous position at G&E, Mr. Gichner focused on the acquisition and disposition of office investment properties on behalf of institutional and private investors. He was placed among G&E's top 5 producers nationwide in 2003, 2004 and 2006.

As brokerage partners at G&E, Mr. Berkman & Mr. Gichner have specialized in investment sales. In 2011 alone, they have brokered deals that total over 850,000 square feet of institutional quality space, including 248,576 square feet at 840 1st Street, NE, 139,883 square feet at the Warren Building, 143,530 square feet at the Stafford Commerce Center I-IV, 103,360 square feet at the Lakefront at Washingtonian and a 214,406 square feet corporate data center previously owned by a Fortune 50 Company.
Mr. Berkman is graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Colorado College with a bachelor's degree in political science. He also completed graduate studies from the University of Chicago. Among his professional recognitions and affiliations, he is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) in the Northern Virginia and Maryland/DC Chapter and a winner of The John Akridge Companies Sales Transaction of the Year Award in 2000.
Mr. Gichner is a graduate of Colorado College with a bachelor's degree in business and economics. He was the Smithy Braedon/ONCOR International Top Producer from 1996 to 1998 and is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).
In 2003, both were honored with the MD Sales Deal of the Year by the Greater Washington Commercial Association of Realtors, and in 2010 the team was recognized by GWCAR as the Top Producer in Northern Virginia.
