Cushman & Wakefield announced today the lease of 17,024 square feet of space at 668 6th Avenue, San Diego, 92101. Kaplan International North America, LLC signed a 10-year lease for $5,730,417 on the second floor of the former Borders Books & Music building in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter.
Cushman & Wakefield’s Urban Property Group, led by Bill Shrader and David Maxwell, represented the lessor, IPG-Monro Capital Fund I, LP. “This lease is a significant step in the transformation of this former single tenant building into a multi-tenant mixed-use property. Kaplan was attracted to this great Gaslamp location, high ceilings and ability to create its own storefront on 6th Avenue” according to Bill Shrader, Senior Director of Cushman & Wakefield’s Urban Property Group.
The 33,000-square-foot building is located at the southwest corner of 6th Avenue and G Street. The building is easily recognizable by its unique exposed brick and glass-wrapped exterior. The property was built in 2002 and was home to Borders Books & Music until they closed in 2011. The building was purchased in June 2012 by IPG Monro Capital Fund I, LP, marking the fund’s first acquisition.
