Legal Sector Advisory Group - Cushman & Wakefield

Legal Sector Advisory Group

A new chapter has begun for the legal sector. Competition, fee structures and generational shifts are just some of the challenges law firms are facing. Maintaining profit margins and controlling expenses are areas of constant focus. Now, more than ever, law firms are closely evaluating and changing the cost, size, efficiency and location of their real estate footprint – resulting in innovative solutions that rewrite the book on legal sector real estate decision-making solutions that are flexible, collaborative, efficient and adaptable to these ever changing times.

Cushman & Wakefield’s Legal Sector Advisory Group (LSAG) is comprised of over 200 real estate advisors from across the country who specialize in creating and implementing real estate solutions that support a law firm’s business. Over the last ten years, Cushman & Wakefield has represented over 50% of the Am Law 100 firms in transactions across the United States. Our Legal Sector Advisory Group regularly advises law firms ranging in size from small boutiques with only one location to global operations with hundreds of attorneys. By bringing together real estate advisors that understand the unique business, financial and operational drivers of the legal sector, C&W provides our law firm clients with creative, forward-thinking strategies that place them at a competitive advantage.

National Legal Sector Benchmark Survey and Results

In the legal sector, one future constant will be continued change.  In fact, 44% of respondents to our 2014 National Legal Sector Benchmark Survey stated that in the next decade, law firm partnerships will be completed restructured, and 4% said the structures will no longer exist in their current form.  Firms are continually seeking creative ways to structure fees and leverage client services and talent to maintain their competitive stance.  Evaluating how real estate components affect profitability, overall operations and client support, as well as the generations of lawyers that work within a law firm are just some key drivers in today’s decision making.

In response to these challenges, Cushman & Wakefield’s Legal Sector Advisory Group recently released the results of its second National Legal Sector Benchmark Survey. The report include responses from more than 400 decision-making representatives of law firms across the globe and provides key insights, statistics and trends about the business, financial and operational drivers affecting the legal sector.

In addition, LSAG developed a first-ever survey focused on the concerns and challenges facing today’s associates.  The results of our Associate Survey, included within the National Legal Sector Benchmark Survey Results, provide invaluable insight into the priorities of associates and how the next generation of attorneys view the industry and its future.
